Measure around the neck where a collar sits, then add two fingers of room. Most adult cats take No. 5 or No. 4. Kittens and after-spay cases usually take No. 6 or No. 7.
Depth matters as much as neck size. The cone has to reach past the nose, or your cat will get to the wound anyway and the collar is doing nothing.
Worth knowing
Cats walk into furniture for the first day and often sulk. That passes. What matters is whether they can eat and drink: raise the bowls, or take the cone off at mealtimes while you watch, and put it straight back on.
Check the fit daily. Two fingers should slide under the neck strap. If your cat gets a paw over the top, works it off, or stops eating entirely, call your vet.
Your vet decides how long it stays on. Taking it off early is how stitches get opened.
