Giving a cat a tablet by hand means putting your fingers past their teeth. This puts the pill at the back of the tongue without them.
How it works
Load the tablet in the soft tip, open your cat's mouth, place it over the back of the tongue, push the plunger. Then close the mouth and stroke the throat until they swallow.
The soft tip matters. A hard plastic one can catch the roof of the mouth, and a cat who gets hurt once will fight you every time after.
Always follow with water
Give a few ml of water, or a little wet food, straight after the pill. A dry tablet can sit in the throat instead of going down, and some medicines irritate badly if they stay there. This is standard advice from vets and it takes five seconds.
Worth knowing
Not every medicine should be given dry or crushed. Some tablets are coated for a reason. Ask your vet before splitting or crushing anything.
Work quickly and calmly. Wrapping your cat in a towel with just the head out makes the whole thing easier for both of you.
Available in blue, green and red.
